Director of Store Operations 2nd Chances Thrift Store, Marysville

Reports to: President of Board of Directors
Pay Scale: Full-Time, Salary with performance bonus of up to 20% of base salary
Responsible for the overall training, and operations of 2nd Chances Thrift Store. This includes supporting the assistant managers to train volunteers and new associates, day to day operations, ongoing professional development, and creating a Christ centered environment. Will oversee the hiring and development of a qualified team, proper execution of the Associate Handbook policies and procedures, hitting or exceeding sales goals, directing store level decision making and guidance to the assistant store managers. Coordinates weekly with the Offsite Donation Center manager to schedule the timely processing of donations and delivery of store ready merchandise. Also schedules donation pick-ups at homes, businesses and churches generated by phone calls and email to store as well pickupmydonation.com. This leadership position will serve as the face of the organization to our community.
Essential Functions of the Position

  1. Lead and equip team of paid and unpaid staff to operate the store, and by being an example of “revealing Christ” to all staff, volunteers, donors, customers, and community.
  2. Set clear expectations for staff, train assistant store managers, and support assistant managers in training of team members
  3. Coach and mentor assistant managers on how to lead team members in daily devotions, weekly operations meetings, trainings, and team building exercises
  4. Lead and Train Assistant Store Managers in the following:
    1. Proper processing of all transactions, including cash, checks, credit cards and donations
    2. Oversee the accuracy of Daily Reconciliation Sales Report, bank deposits, daily sales charts, category sales chart, donation charts.
    3. Set clear expectations for exceptional guest services that ensures shoppers and volunteers will return
    4. Provide organized, clearly communicated, and executed volunteer training, support, and recognition
    5. Work with staff to ensure the clean physical appearance of the store, including, but not limited to ordering and maintaining needed janitorial/cleaning supplies, removing safety hazards, picking up store merchandise and restoring to proper rack/placement, direct cleaning of sidewalks, windows, doors, store floors, restrooms, and other public areas to ensure the health and safety of customers and staff. This also means keeping clean and organized sales areas, directing updating seasonal displays and well-organized departments
    6. Lead and train staff and volunteers in stocking shelves and racks to offer customers with maximum shopping opportunities
    7. Attend as requested training events and board of directors’ meetings
    8. Work with and effectively communicate with the Processing Manager, the processing employees, and volunteers, as well as with donors to keep a positive flow of information and foster a cooperative team culture
    9. Direct and implement store social media marketing efforts with store staff

  7. Must be able to take initiative knowing its ok to make mistakes and you have the support of the board to direct the store operations
  8. Excellent planning and time management skills
  9. Ability to train and develop staff, including setting measurable and realistic staff goals, providing ongoing feedback to staff, rewarding excellence as well as applying progressive discipline if needed to address staff short comings
  10. Must be able to manage confrontation with love, grace, and professionalism
  11. Technical skills:
    1. Microsoft office including Word, excel
    2. Email communications
    3. Ability to operate office copier/fax, printers, scanners, and laptop
    4. Ability to collect data/information, define problems and draw valid conclusions
    5. Ability to operate point of sale cash register, credit card machine and make change
High School diploma or GED required. College degree preferred. 2 to 3 years minimum experience in teaching, retail management or staff development experience preferred.
Certificate, licenses, and registrations
Valid Ohio driver’s license and able to be covered by our store’s auto insurance policy. Ability to be bonded. Must pass a criminal and financial background check.

Work Schedule
  1. Full-time Monday- Saturday, 40 hours/week, up to 2 evenings a week & 2 Saturdays/month
  2. Store director will set weekly store schedule
  3. Attendance at specific meetings or occasional off-site trainings
